How this page is made, what it weighs, and what it costs to send to you. We publish this because a website’s environmental cost is usually invisible, and because a festival arguing for slower, less extractive cultural practice should be able to account for its own.

How it is built

What it weighs

Photograph152 KB
Funders’ logos18 KB
Text, layout and script11 KB
Whole page237 KB

Typefaces are requested separately from Google Fonts and are not counted above. Removing the photograph would cut the page by roughly two thirds.

What that costs

0.03 g CO2e and 0.07 Wh per visit

Calculated with version 4 of the Sustainable Web Design Model, which puts the operational and embodied energy of moving data at 0.300 kWh per gigabyte across data centres, networks and user devices, and uses a global average grid intensity of 494 g CO2e per kWh from Ember’s world dataset. 237 KB at those rates gives the figures above. The model is an estimate of a system-wide average, not a measurement of your visit: the real figure depends on the electricity where the page is served, the network it crosses and the device you are reading on.

An independent test by Website Carbon on 9 October 2026 gave the same result: 0.03 g of CO2 per visit, a rating of A+, cleaner than 95% of web pages tested globally.

For comparison and method, see Website Carbon and the Green Web Foundation’s CO2.js, which implements the same model.

Where it is hosted

This page is served by Cloudflare as a static site. Website Carbon reports that it appears to be running on sustainable energy. You can check any domain yourself through the Green Web Foundation.
